Joshua Baraka Takes the Spotlight as Johnnie Walker’s New ‘National Walker’

Joshua Baraka is taking another major step in his journey after being unveiled as Johnnie Walker’s new National Walker in Uganda. The music star will front the brand’s “Keep Walking” campaign, celebrating ambition, resilience and the small steps that lead to bigger breakthroughs.

For Joshua Baraka, the journey has always been bigger than the applause.

Now, that journey has landed him a new title: Johnnie Walker’s National Walker in Uganda, as the global whisky brand officially launches its new Keep Walking campaign in East Africa.

Unveiled at an event at 1420 in Kampala on August 27, the campaign is built around a simple idea progress is not only about reaching the destination, but everything it takes to get there.

And Baraka, one of Uganda’s most exciting young music stars, is being positioned as the perfect embodiment of that spirit.

From the late nights in the studio to the breakthrough moments that have taken his music beyond Uganda, Baraka’s story reflects the campaign’s “One Step Closer” message: that every small win, bold decision, setback and leap of faith counts.

“I have always believed that the journey is just as important as the destination,” Baraka said, reflecting on his new role. “There are so many moments that people do not see, the work, the uncertainty, the decisions, and the small wins that eventually become something bigger.”

But this is not just another celebrity endorsement.

As National Walker, Baraka will take the Keep Walking message beyond Kampala through a Johnnie Walker-sponsored roadshow across Uganda, connecting with communities and highlighting people whose own journeys are shaping the country.

The roadshow will eventually lead to a mega show by Baraka in Kampala, bringing together fans and supporters who have followed his journey.

For Johnnie Walker, the campaign is also about looking beyond the usual success stories. It will spotlight African creators, entrepreneurs, innovators and cultural voices who are carving their own paths, creating opportunities and refusing to stand still.

“Joshua Baraka represents that spirit beautifully,” said Christine Kyokunda, Brand Manager, Johnnie Walker Uganda. “His journey reminds us that you do not have to have arrived to know that you are making progress.”

And perhaps that is what makes the campaign resonate.

Because before the sold-out shows, there are empty rooms. Before the applause, there is the grind and before the big break, there are countless little steps nobody sees.

For Baraka, the next one has just begun.
